Diet For a Healthy Spine

Customized diet plans by our Registered Dietitian to support spine health, bone strength, and faster recovery from back pain.

Why Diet Matters for Spine Health

A healthy lifestyle requires proper nutrition as a major component. Diet plays an important role in controlling blood sugar levels, blood pressure, endocrine problems (thyroid, obesity) — all of which directly affect spine health and back pain. A balanced diet helps nourish the spine and gives it adequate nutrients to keep the bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves and cartilage healthy.

At Pune Spine Institute, our Registered Dietitian Ms. Gayatri Kulkarni works with patients to create customized diet plans to support a healthy spine — from managing bone density and disc health to supporting post-surgical recovery.

Key Nutrients for Spine Health

Calcium

800 mg/day — from ragi roti, milk, cheese, paneer, and tofu for strong bones.

Vitamin D3

From sunlight, fatty fish, liver and egg yolk — crucial for calcium absorption.

Vitamin C

55–65 mg/day — from amla, guava, capsicum, tomato, citrus fruits for collagen formation.

Proteins

50–60 g/day — from eggs, chicken, dal, sprouts, milk, soy, paneer, tofu for tissue repair.
